Cape Town FabLab

Manager: Pieter Cilliers

The FabLab in Cape Town is hosted by the Cape Crafts and Design Institute (CCDI), and is situated in The Fringe, Cape Town's innovation district. It is the third FabLab to be commissioned and launched by DST on the 30th May 2006. Since then the FabLab has increased its capacity and expanded into what is now known as the Product Support Space. The facility has a specific focus on craft and design and aims to help producers solve technical problems they would not normally have the resources to solve on their own.

The Product Support Space (FabLab) is an assisted DIY facility where you can work on developing products from idea through prototyping. We encourage research, experimentation and problem solving, and provide assistance throughout the process. Equipment include a wide range of hand tools, digital fabrication machines such as a vinyl and laser cutter, thermoforming machines such as a line bander and vacuum former, and fabric-related machines for sewing, embroidery, thermal transfer and sublimation printing. Design and web research computers are also available for use.
